Inspired by Scandinavian Noir crime, north European legends and Southern Gothic I use photography to create unwelcoming landscapes, either with or without people. Landscapes which are indifferent to the viewer, which don’t want to engage, which want to keep you out rather than welcome you in. Landscapes full of mystery and atmosphere where you might stumble across a makeshift shrine, strange carvings or maybe even a body.

My landscapes frequently contain built structures, signs of the human in the landscape; sometimes they are entirely interior. However they are never about the humans who contracted these elements, they’re about things older, deeper and more primal which lie beneath the surface and which will find their way through, either physically as foliage overtaking a ruined wall, or metaphorically the way you feel in a deserted building.
